About Iris
Iris Sewell is a New York based choreographer and director. Her creation style focuses on world building and thematic symbolism. Iris's choreography engages with storytelling while still holding the goal of creating a cohesive movement vocabulary and practice for each individual piece. Her visuals and movement gestures range from humorous and campy to simple yet impactful.
Iris grew up in Southern California training with South Coast Conservatory and Maple Dance Conservatory in contemporary , modern, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, and Latin ballroom. In 2019 she attended the New School where she studied theater and dramaturge practices as well as modern dance disciplines. In 2020, She began studying dance with the New York University Tisch Dance Program. Apart from creating her own pieces, Iris has worked with Trisha Brown Dance Company, Project Tag, Rafael Cañalas, Hussein Smko, Nami Yamamoto, Neil Greenberg, Mizuho Kappa, and Sean Curran.
Iris's most recent performace was an original choreographic work for Friedrichs Pontone as a part of the "Off The Wall" series curated by Abdul Latif
